Kokoda Trail Motel delighted with construction results

Steel Industries used FRAMECAD steel framing to efficiently construct the Kokoda Trail Motel’s 21 bungalows and facilities, significantly reducing construction time and cost

One of Steel Industries’ most recent and successful redevelopments is the Kokoda Trail Motel in Sogeri, located approximately an hour’s drive from the heart of Port Moresby.

All existing buildings were demolished to make way for new one- and two-bedroom bungalows. In fact, from February 2023 to January 2025, Steel Industries played a pivotal role in constructing 21 bungalows, a conference centre and hall, and the trekkers’ accommodation building.

Thanks to the efficiency of our FRAMECAD light gauge steel framing machines, each structure was assembled and installed in just three days – an impressive achievement considering traditional methods and materials, such as timber, typically require three weeks.

Martin Keyaling, Project Manager for the Kokoda Trail Motel, commended the effectiveness of FRAMECAD materials, highlighting the significantly reduced installation time, as well as the products’ exceptional durability and quality.

The total project delivered substantial savings and benefits to the client compared to timber-based design, framing, and labour requirements. The official opening of the motel is scheduled for late March this year.
