Steel Industries completion of Simberi Gold Mine project

Steel Industries has invested heavily in improving its operations over the last 3 years with the purchase of an adjoining property, expansions of merchandising and fabrication operations, and a big investment in our sandblasting and painting facilities.

The latter has paid off with the completion of a large painting job for Simberi Gold Mine. Approximately 40 tonne of steel was provided with the bulk of it being sandblasted and then painted with a 4 coat two pack paint system to provide protection in the harsh mining environment. A total of 488 pieces ranging from small brackets to 9m beams were all individually checked, tested, documented and carefully packed to ensure they met the required standards and arrived safely at their destination.

The project could not have been completed without the new facilities which allows materials to be quickly transferred from a sealed sandblast operation to three individual paint booths within a purpose built facility in the factory utilising overhead cranes. Simberi’s feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we are eager to replicate this success on future projects needing the same level of excellence.
